For this reason, tools are currently being developed to provide security and visibility in the HR permissions area. The basic idea is a clear overview that shows which data certain users in the SAP system can access. Based on this, automatic checks can be developed, which run in the background and regularly check whether critical gaps have been created by changes to the permissions in the HR area. The use of such a tool can create more security, especially in the HR authorisation environment. In addition, the possibility of the overview function is very pleasant and relieving for all involved. In addition to internal security requirements, national and international guidelines sometimes require all audit and security-related user actions to be recorded. With the Security Audit Log (SAL) you have the possibility to log all changes, e.g. for users, user master records, but also roles and groups.
If you look at everything I've described up front in its entirety, it quickly becomes clear which direction things are headed: the SAP basis will increasingly move toward an SRE-centric environment over the next decade. This is what the future of SAP looks like, and I look forward to an exciting journey.

SAP Basis refers to the administration of SAP system that includes activities like installation and configuration, load balancing, and performance of SAP applications running on Java stack and SAP ABAP.
