How to analyze roles and authorizations in the SAP system
The role menu of the PFCG role now consists of folders that represent all logical links within a scope start page, and external services that represent the logical links and the area start pages themselves. This means that any external service listed in the Role Menu is eligible for a Area Start Page or Logical Link. If such an external service is removed from the role menu and the PFCG role is generated, the user of this PFCG role does not have permissions to view this external service (see screenshot next page). You will find duplicate, maybe even triple, entries from external services. These are mainly found in the folders of the homepage and under GENERIC_OP_LINKS. You can delete them without any concern, because an external service for a permission must appear only once in the Role menu. For a better overview, it is also useful to rename the external services or folders as they are shown in the SAP CRM Web Client.

In addition to your custom authorization objects, you must also express the other relevant CO-PA authorization objects in your users' permissions. As a rule, you must limit access to the result reports of the K_KEB_REP object to the result area and the report name, and limit the functions of the information system in the K_KEB_TC object, such as executing or updating reports. You also need permissions to maintain the authorization objects in customising the result and market segment calculations. To do this, assign permissions to the K_KEPL_BER object. In the CERKRS field, define the result area for which authorization objects are created, and in the ACTVT field, define the activity, where the action 02 is Create and Modify.

In the course of a comprehensive protection of your system from the inside as well as from the outside it is indispensable to have a closer look especially at the SAP standard users. They have far-reaching authorizations that can cause great damage to your system if misused. It should be noted that they are very important for the operational execution of your SAP system and must not be deleted. However, since the associated standard passwords can be quickly researched, they must be changed immediately after delivery of the SAP ERP. You can perform a detailed check of these users using report RSUSRS003. It is also recommended to set certain default users inactive until they are actually used.

Alternatively, you can maintain this information from the SE93 transaction by selecting a transaction first. You will then be presented with the list of all transactions that can be called from this transaction by using the Tools > Called Transaction Permission menu path. The implementation of SAP Note 1870622 provides a feature enhancement for the SE97 transaction. Among other things, there is the new button Modification Synchronisation. So far, changes in the SE97 transaction have been overwritten by inserting support packages or upgrades. With the modification comparison it is now possible to match your changes with the default values.

The possibility of assigning authorizations during the go-live can be additionally secured by using "Shortcut for SAP systems".

To do this, select the appropriate entries in the Category and Transport fields and check the Current setting option.
